Dating expats can be an invigorating experience if you’re bored with dating people who you are thoroughly familiar with – their foods, their habits and their general thinking. We’re all human and we’re all alike, but our cultures are so richly different that it can sometimes help you discover a whole new set of experiences when you’re dating expats.

Why Dating Expats Is Special

A cross cultural relationship has so many variables that you need to be very careful of certain things: that is, if you don’t want to offend the other person or be put in a tight spot because you didn’t know what to do at their family dinner! There are several things you can do to make sure you’re always on the right side of the thin line of propriety.

Travel To Their Country

If you can afford it, taking a trip to see your date’s country isn’t such a bad idea. It will give you a much better picture of what they’re all about. If that’s not practical, you can visit a neighborhood that’s known to have a majority of immigrant population from that country. What you are trying to do here is to learn as much about that person’s culture as you can, so you can make engaging conversation in an informed manner.

Learn Their Language

If you’re a budding linguist, then this is a good opportunity to pick up a new tongue. A cross cultural relationship can be a very rich one if both try to blend into the culture of the other. You don’t need to lose your identity to do this – and neither do they. Just pick up a few choice phrases that will have your date in peals of laughter (probably!). At the very least, you should watch You Tube videos of people from that country speaking in English – it will help you understand the accent better.

Try Their Food

Cuisine is one thing that brings people closer, so if finding a soulmate is important to you, try their food and see if you can learn to love it. Dating expats isn’t just about understanding each other, but also about understanding where each of you comes from, and food represents that perfectly.

Google It

If all else fails, you can take solace in the fact that good old Larry Page and his team will help you find any information you need on a particular country and culture! Google is certainly one of the best online resources, and you should be able to get everything you need to help you understand your date’s cultural background.

These pointers should help in finding a soulmate. At the very least, it will show you whether dating expats is the way you want to go.
